Don’t listen to Winston, vote properly in the flag referendum

Winston Peters has been telling New Zealanders for a while that he really dislikes the flag referendum. He’s not alone, the Labour Party and Greens agree that the motion to change our flag through two referendums defies common sense and isn’t worth it. However, Winston Peters has been the most vocal, if not the only vocal, politician telling people that they should invalidate their votes by scribbling ‘Keep Our Flag’ on the first of two referendum papers.

‘Our advice, shared by others, is to vote but write a clear message on your ballot paper. This casts what is known as an “informal vote.” These votes are counted and our preference is to write “KOF”, or “Keep our Flag” over the top of the four options, but anyone is free to choose the message they wish to send.’
